07.07.10 - Cautionary tale from someone in Hatton Park Road:-
"Sitting in the garden
on Tuesday I overheard a conversation between one of
my elderly neighbours and a so called roofing contractor operating in
the
area. He proceeded to tell my neighbour that he thought he could see
loose
tiles on his roof and said, "as he was only working just down the road,
he would
have a quick look for him at no charge".
This aroused my interest as I was unable to see any loose
tiles. This guy put his ladders up to the property, climbed onto the
roof.
As there was no way my neighbour could see what he was doing, he
pulled up a couple of tiles, loosened 4 or 5 of the top coving's across
the
roof, and tried to rock the chimney stack loose. I couldn't believe what
I was
seeing!!
The upshot of this episode, the guy wanted £1200.00 pounds to
repair damage
he'd just caused"
Watch out for a small white van, 2 guys with baseball caps and lots of ladders on the roof.
